Tasmania Police units are searching for a man with a firearm after he attempted to rob two Launceston stores on Friday afternoon.

The first robbery happened at the Ravenswood BWS on Castlemain Road and the second at Waverley's Top Shop on the Tasman Highway.
Both incidents happened between 3.30pm and 3.45pm.

It is understood a man entered the stores, demanded money and produced a firearm.
The male offender is described as being Caucasian, around 175cm tall, wearing a dark jacket, jeans, with a short goatee beard.
He left the scene in a light blue sedan.
The vehicle was last seen at the roundabout on the Tasman Highway in the Waverley area.
