After two men were caught with undersized abalone, Tasmania Police is reminding the community about rules and requirements around abalone fishing.

On January 7, officers from the Northern Marine Services caught the men taking undersized black lip abalone after receiving information through the Fishwatch hotline.
The abalone were seized and the men will be issued with fisheries infringement notices.

Police will be targeting illegal fishing activity and marine offences through land and water-based patrols over the summer months.
Anyone fishing for abalone in Tasmania must hold a current recreational abalone licence.
Penalties will apply to anyone who does not comply with the rules.
