Max Jago, who runs Sunsmart Energy, raised $500 for The Examiner Empty Stocking Appeal with his Sunsmart Light Show, at his home in Alanvale Road.
The appeal closes today, and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for four local charities: the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, the Benevolent Society and City Mission.
Mr Jago said he would make the music-synchronised light show a yearly occurrence.
"I love lights, I've always been in the audio and lighting and staging industry and it's something I've wanted to do for ages, but I've only recently been able to afford it," he said.
"I plan on going bigger and better again next year, and maybe doing something for Halloween. I just ordered some flamethrowing machines, and I've already started playing around."
