A chartered plane carrying 12 volunteers from the North-West will take off from Devonport at around 7:45am and stop in Launceston to pick up 29 firefighters from the north.

They will land in Canberra and be dispatched to the fire front across the Shoalhaven region and Nowra.

North-West regional fire chief Shane Batt said it was the first time Tasmanian firefighters had been sent interstate since Christmas.

"Since then (Christmas) we've had additional requests from NSW to try and reengage our firefighters to see if we can provide any assistance," he said.

"I wish them all well and hope for a safe return for all our firefighters who get deployed to the mainland."

The departure of the 41 firefighters comes as the TFS continues to battle bushfires around Fingal in the North-East of Tasmania.

Mr Batt said the TFS was able to send some volunteers interstate because they had made progress on the fires in the North-East.

"It looks like we're starting to get on top of them and there's some good containment lines over them," he said.

"We will try to resource NSW where we can but the priority is our state. But we understand the stress and requirements to try and assist NSW."

Mr Batt said firefighters based in the North-West were also able to help out because the bushfire season had not yet started on the Coast.

"So we're taking the opportunity while we can, while we've got some people who are keen and who can assist," he said.
