Ajur Rai, 24, appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Friday with an interpreter.
The Newnham man was driving on Greens Beach at York Town and was stopped for a random breath test on November 16.
He registered a reading of .194.
He has three passengers in the vehicle at the time.
Magistrate Simon Brown said it was a very high reading.
"You obviously put yourself and others in danger by driving with that much alcohol," he said.
"You were a danger to yourself and your passengers and any other person on or near the road."
Mr Brown said there was a real need to make it very clear that drinking and driving is completelty unacceptable.
Rai cried as he was sentenced to a 14 month driving disqualification backdated to November 16 2019 and fined $988.04.
