Relaxing in the reception of a Brisbane Street hotel with South African superstar Dale Steyn, Maxwell spotted smoke "billowing out" from the upper flank of the park.
Grabbing a fire extinguisher, Maxwell located the blaze and - just like he would with a half-track slower ball - put it out of the park.
"We just looked out and there was smoke billowing out from a neighbouring park so it was actually coming into the hotel," Maxwell told the BBL following the Stars' four-run win over the Hurricanes.
"We quickly just ran outside to see if it was a barbecue there or something like that and noticed this bush was completely on fire.
"Dale got on the phone to call the fire brigade and I ran back in to look for something to put it out with so I found a fire extinguisher and ran out there and tried to at least put it out and make it a little bit easier for the fire brigade when they got there.
"Luckily enough we put it out in time and the hotel's still there hopefully."
It is unknown how the fire started.
