Just after midday on December 25, the constable intercepted an aqua blue coloured vehicle on the Huon Highway near Glendevie, Tasmania Police said.

"As the constable was approaching the vehicle, the driver, in an alleged deliberate action, reversed suddenly whereby the blue vehicle struck the constable, knocking him, and the unmarked police motorcycle to the ground," they said.

"After this action, the driver moved forward however, again reversed suddenly, and in another alleged deliberate action, attempted to strike the constable."

The vehicle's male driver then drove rapidly from the scene, travelling south towards Dover, police said.

There was also a female passenger in the vehicle.

Police said both people were aged between 25 and 30. The driver had mousey blonde hair, and the female had long blonde hair.

Ambulance Tasmania attended and treated the constable at the scene and then transported him to the Royal Hobart Hospital for further treatment.

Tasmania Police is appealing for any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident, or may have been in the area who have dash cam footage of vehicles travelling south on the Huon Highway towards Dover.

Police say the vehicle was similar to an older style Mazda 121.

It is the second incident of officers being injured in less than 24 hours.

Two officers were injured in Launceston about 1.30am on Christmas day after their marked police vehicle collided with a tow truck hauling a van.

The police vehicle had emergency lights activated at the time.

Both officers were treated for minor injuries and taken to the Launceston General Hospital. The police vehicle was extensively damage.
