After lead contamination in the town's drinking water was first revealed in 2012, TasWater said this month it would deliver treated water to the town if the plan had the unanimous support of the Dorset Council.

At council's December 16 meeting that support was received.

Mayor Greg Howard moved the motion, to "unequivocally support the re-introduction of treated reticulated water to Pioneer residents".

Between 2012 and now, rainwater tanks were delivered to residents. This year, it was revealed some rainwater tanks also contained lead.

"There is ample evidence from surveys across Australia that water tanks often contain high levels of heavy metals including lead, cadmium, copper and zinc and therefore tanks are not an ideal solution for supply of drinking water in areas where these metals are known to exist in the environment," Cr Howard said.
