Tasmania Police says the man was caught with the haul at a Rosetta address and was brought before an after-hours court on Saturday.
He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear at the Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday.
Detective Inspector Kate Chambers said opium poppy crops could be legally grown in Tasmania but many people may not realise the risks associated with their illicit use.
"There are lethal risks associated with the misuse of poppies," she said.
