About 6pm on Sunday evening, the man heard a knock at the door of his Wentworth Street address.
Inspector Darren Hopkins said the man opened the door slightly, and heard a male voice talking about a car parked up the road.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"When the victim's opened the door further, the suspect has grabbed the victim on the right shoulder and pulled him through the doorway," Inspector Hopkins said.
"The offender's thrown a few punches in the direction of the victim, but nothing's connected.
"And I think there was another male that may have been present as well."
Upon hearing the commotion, the victim's carer came to his aid, helping to close and lock the door on the men.
"Then moments later there's a loud bang which they assume is the offenders kicking at the door," Inspector Hopkins said.
Police attended the scene following reports of the incident and wish to speak to two men in relation to assault and destroy property offences.
The first male is described as about 160 centimetres tall, in his early 30s, with scruffy hair and facial hair and wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts and no shoes.
The second male is described as about 182 centimetres tall, clean-shaven and wearing a grey t-shirt.
