The 2020 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale is ready to deliver more life-changing racetrack stars this February with a record number of yearlings catalogued for next year's auction in Launceston.
With recent graduates including Mystic Journey, Palentino, The Cleaner and Soul Patch, it's easy to understand why the sale is statistically the best return on investment yearling sale in Australasia.
One of the country's most popular gallopers, Mystic Journey was an $11,000 buy for owner Wayne Roser and trainer Adam Trinder at the Tasmanian Yearling Sale in 2017.
Winner of the inaugural All-Star Mile at Flemington, Mystic Journey at her previous run captured the Group One Australian Guineas at the same track. As it stands she's earned connections over $3.7 million.
Another recent star of the Melbourne Spring Carnival was the Ken Keys trained Soul Patch who won the Group Two Moonee Valley Vase on Cox Plate Day before running a gallant third in the Group One Victoria Derby at Flemington.
Soul Patch, like Mystic Journey, was sold through the draft of Armidale Stud - this time a year later and for a cost of $45,000.
Other recent stars including Palentino, The Cleaner, Eastender, Hot Dipped, Mystical Pursuit, Smart Coupe, Mandela Effect, Double You Tee, Cellarmaid and Bold Star were also sold at the Inveresk Showgrounds in Launceston before heading to the races.
The 2020 Tasmanian Yearling Sale catalogue comprises 146 lots featuring youngsters by an impressive line up of 57 individual sires including members of the first crops of 12 stallions.
All of Tasmania's leading breeders are represented in the catalogue with the largest drafts coming from Armidale Stud (42 lots), Grenville Stud (41 lots), Brooklyn Park (12 lots), Motree Thoroughbreds (11 lots).
Exciting freshman sires Alpine Eagle (26 lots) and Lionhearted (17 lots) are well represented along with Mystic Journey's sire Needs Further (13 lots).
Great interest will surround the three offerings by former sale topper and multiple Group One winner Palentino.
The 2020 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale will be held from 12 noon on Monday 24 February, the day after the $75,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic (plus $10,000 Racing Women's Bonus) and $65,000 TasBreeders Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Classic are run on Tasmanian Oaks Day (Sunday 23 February, Mowbray Racecourse).
