Now about 730,000 learner drivers have participated in Keys2drive programs across Australia since the program's inception.
Keys2drive national project manager Ben Haythorpe said the program offered free 60-minute driving lessons from qualified instructors to learner drivers and their parents or supervisor to refresh them on road safety.
"We're coming back to our birthplace 10 years later and just reminding everyone about the program that's still going," he said.
"We want more young people to sign up and get involved with Keys2drive."
He said some learner drivers might believe they're better at driving than they are, so the program is aimed at helping to build a foundation for lifelong safe driving.
RACT mobility services general manager Darren Moody said the program was important, as when a young person obtained their P1 licence and began driving on their own, they joined the highest at-risk group on the roads.
"These young first year drivers are more likely to be involved in a car crash and become a statistic than any other age group of road users," he said. "And they are 20 times more likely to be injured in a crash than when they are on their L plates and driving with a licensed driver."
Mr Moody said it was OK to make mistakes as long as you recognise and learn from them.
