The proposed Tamar project, one of 10 being investigated as part of the Tranche Three Pipeline to Prosperity initiatives, aims to deliver high-surety irrigation water to properties located between Beaconsfield, Selbourne, Westwood, Hillwood, Lilydale and the Pipers River region.
Tasmanian Irrigation chief executive Andrew Kneebone said initial expressions of interest were held during the first round of consultation about 18 months ago.
"Due to the high levels of interest that were lodged, we have gone back to the drawing board to expand the concept design to deliver additional water to this high-value agricultural region," he said.
In other news:
"We have been contacted by several farmers who have purchased additional land and wish to increase the amount of water originally requested in their EOI, and other landowners who are planning to plant vineyards and other intensive crops, so we are looking forward to working with all interested parties to design a scheme that delivers maximum benefit and opportunity.
"We will also be calling for nominations for the Irrigator Representative Committee, which is a key component of our commitment to open and transparent communication with all stakeholders as we move through the planning, building and delivery phases."
It is estimated that when fully implemented, the 10 Tranche Three projects could deliver 78,000 megalitres of water via 479 kilometres of pipeline to farmers, creating 2,600 full time jobs and increasing annual on-farm production by $114 million at the farm gate."
The community meeting will be held at the Sidmouth Community Hall on December 12 at 7pm.
