The crash occurred on Glenfern Road about 11.30am. The man was travelling north on a gravel section of the road.
Tasmania Police Senior Constable Adam Hall said the man's Mazda sedan slid off the road while negotiating a right hand curve, impacting heavily with a tree.
The man, believed to be in Tasmania on a 12 month working visa, was the sole occupant of the car.
Constable Hall said police were working with interstate and overseas authorities to notify the man's family.
"Initial investigations suggest excessive speed for the corner has caused the vehicles loss of control," Constable Hall said.
"The use of alcohol or drugs are not suspected."
Police, Ambulance Tasmania, TFS and SES all attended the scene. Glenfern Road was closed until 5pm while police forensic and crash investigation services investigated the scene.
