Scott Thomas Riley, 35 of Launceston, appeared before Magistrate Simon Brown on Friday afternoon.
Mr Brown said the assaults, which also included the woman "being back-handed to the face" and be "subject to numerous blows to the head", were extremely serious.
"Those incidents must have been terrifying," he said.
Riley also plead guilty to motor vehicle stealing. However, Mr Brown said Riley was only in the passenger seat.
IN OTHER NEWS:
He was also guilty to possessing a smoking device and cannabis. In July, Riley was caught driving while disqualified and evaded police. He was also in the possession of a firearm, and charged with being in possession of a firearm without a licence.
Mr Brown said Riley's record was poor, long and serious, and dates back to when he was about 17-years-old.
He said Riley has a "serious and long" drug addiction, and the lifestyle that comes with that had played out in his offending.
The charges of evading police and assault were "generally serious", Mr Brown said. He said his sentence needed to reflect the nature of the charges and provide a deterrence for other members of the public.
Riley was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, backdated from July 30, 12 months disqualified driving upon his release and a 12-month community corrections order. He was also ordered to pay $140 in levees.
