This year the event will not use plastic candles in an effort to be more sustainable, carols coordinator Danny Gibson said.
"We have been working with the Australian supplier of Melbourne's Carols by Candlelight to secure a slow-burning candle - that's 7000 less items of plastic going to landfill, 7000 less batteries going to landfill, and we are proud of that," he said.
"Pack your picnic hamper and get ready for Christmas. I cannot think of anything more special than Carols by Candlelight on the Sunday in the lead up to Christmas."
Lila Sims, 8, said as well as carols, her favourite part of Christmas was spending time with her family on the beach.
"We usually go down to our shack at Binalong Bay, and we go swimming, have a big lunch, and have a campfire," she said.
"I love the energy of Christmas, when it's getting closer and everybody is so excited."
Clarice Kirschbaum, 8, said her favourite part of the season was setting up the Christmas tree and putting up decorations.
"We do that a bit before December, and then on Christmas day my favourite part is probably the food," she said. "I spend time with my family and we play lots of board games."
The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise. Performers donate their time, which means that all proceeds can go to The Examiner's Empty Stocking Appeal.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Over $88,000 has been donated in the previous six years, and there is no reason why we should not be able to contribute another $15,000 this year if we get overwhelming community support," Mr Gibson said.
"And this is perhaps the real secret to the success of our event - it is actually an embodiment of what Christmas spirit is supposed to be about: a community working together out of shared goodwill and generosity."
The Examiner Empty Stocking Appeal raises money for St Vincent de Paul, the Benevolent Society, City Mission and the Salvation Army.
