The day also served as a chance for students to learn about keeping cool during summer and to raise money for the Cancer Council.
Cancer Council sunsmart officer Ella French said a particular issue she discussed with teenagers was tanning and its long term impacts on the skin.
"Something I'm talking about today is that tanning isn't actually healthy and it's a sign that your skin is damaged against the sun," Ms French said.
"Tanning can lead to damage later on in life ... trying to get those key messages across now where it really impacts them because child and adolescence exposure is one of the biggest risk factors for skin cancer later on in life."
