In its third year, the festival has continued to grow in popularity according to Farmgate committee chairperson and Tamar Valley Hazelnuts owner Carol Bracken.

"Each year the festival's gotten bigger and more people are hearing about it ... it's become an established event in the Tamar Valley," Ms Bracken said.

"In another two years we're hoping it will become an annual feature [event]."

The two-day event allows people to engage in self-guided tours of 15 businesses.

This includes Langdale Farm, Lentara Grove, Tamar Valley Truffles and many others.

"The biggest positive of the region is the variety of farms that people can visit in the one day," Ms Bracken said.

"We've got vineyards, a cider maker, hazelnuts, pork and sheep - all this range within easy driving distance of each other."

Some of the businesses participating such as Tamar Valley Hazelnuts aren't typically open unless by appointment.

This, according to Ms Bracken, is what makes the festival a great opportunity for people to see where some of the valley's most popular products come from firsthand.

"A lot of these places aren't normally open to the public so it's a big deal," she said.

"The farms get that chance to show what farming's all about and share their passion for their business.

"For them, it gives them that connection you can get with a customer you can't get at a market or shopfront where they really understand how the product is created as well as the care and passion that's gone into it."
