At Evandale, mirroring celebrations put on by the Thai Association of Tasmania involved food, music, and games.

Loi Krathong is a traditional festival dedicated to the river goddess.

It is celebrated in Thailand as well as neighbouring provinces in Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, and China.

Thai Association of Tasmania public officer Pearl Chinthammit said the association had been planning for three to four months for the local version of the significant holiday.

"There's a lot of volunteers involved, so we have to thank them for that," she said.

"I would say about 50 to 60 volunteers, including the performers, have come together for this occasion."

Inside the hall dancing and Thai music was put on, and lines snaked around the lawns for the food stalls outside.

The weather was also kind: the sun shined and the wind died down.

The biggest problem on the day was not having enough food for the sizable crowd by about 2pm.

Sunday's event was the first time the festival had been held in Evandale, and the second year an event had been held in Tasmania for Loi Krathong, with last year's showing at St Ailbe's Hall.

"Evandale's hall was a perfect fit for this purpose," Ms Chinthammit said.

"The village has been very generous with us, and very supportive.

"People can come and see us in our traditional costumes - we don't wear them very often in Thailand, only on special occasions like today, so it's a good opportunity.

"There's also traditional Thai music, and some games for the kids.

"And - most importantly - food."

The Thai Association of Tasmania is a non-profit organisation that provides assistance to its members and promotes the unity of the Thai community in the state.

It aims to promote and advance the rights, interests and welfare of Thai residents in Tasmania, represent and provide assistance to its members within and out of Tasmania, to foster harmony among Thai community in Tasmania, and promote Thai culture, products, and businesses.
