The West Tamar Council will vote on adopting a food van policy for council-owned or managed land at its meeting on Tuesday, November 19.
According to a manager developer report completed by Amanda Locatelli, there had been interest from the community in establishing food vans in the West Tamar area.
The proposed policy includes permits that would be purchased by food van vendors that would cover a certain period in the financial year.
More on food vans:
A 12-month permit would cost $450, or 6-month permits can be purchased at $250 for off peak months (April to September) and $350 for on peak (October to March).
Eligible charity and non-for-profit organisations would pay 50 per cent of whichever permit they apply for.
According to Ms Locatelli's report to council, the policy aligns with the West Tamar Council's Strategic Plan "to encourage the sustainable growth and prosperity of the region".
The report has identified risks with food vans such as competition with fixed food vendor businesses, waste management and potential noise.
In other news:
The proposed policy would give the general manager delegation to cancel permits should the permit terms be breached.
The report notes that community consultation on food vans has been undertaken by the council which helped identify locations for food vans to operate.
The report recommended the food van policy for approval.
