The blaze on Golden Gate Road was first reported about 10.45am.
There is no immediate threat, however the TFS advised bushfires under these conditions could be difficult to control.
People living in the area should keep up-to-date by listening to ABC Local Radio or by checking the TFS website at fire.tas.gov.au.
TFS said if your home is well prepared and actively defended it should provide shelter, however, if you're going to leave ensure you have a clear path to a safer place.
There may be embers, smoke and ash falling on Golden Gate Road, Mathinna and threaten your home earlier than the main fire.
If your family has made a bushfire survival plan, use it now.
