Environment Minister Peter Gutwein criticised Ms O'Connor for telling people at a recent public event to place pressure on the project's proponents.
He said death threats had been made against the Hacketts before Ms O'Connor's call to action.
"In an environment like this that is highly charged, when a young family have had death threats made against them, for her to continue with that call for persecution is beyond the pale and she should be called out on it," Mr Gutwein said.
"There are people who will listen to what they say, who will take action that they deem to be appropriate and, in the past, that has led to death threats against this family."
Ms O'Connor said the party denounced whoever had made threats to the Hackett family.
"Leadership means condemning violence or threats of violence against anyone and that includes those of different political beliefs," she said.
Ms O'Connor said the Liberals had refused to condemn violent acts and threats directed towards environmentalists, such as those directed at Tarkine protesters. "In refusing to condemn these actions, the Liberals provided tacit endorsement of it," she said.
The Lake Malbena project is one of several eco-tourism ventures proposed for the state's reserved areas.
