We have been busy working with some very inspirational retirees to bring you a different spin on getting older.
I may not be the best person to bring you this publication, at almost 30, I still have a lot of life yet to experience.
But, I can honestly say I have been so inspired by some of the life stories we have featured and I feel proud of the publication we have put together.
I always thought retirement was all about relaxing, putting your feet up with a good book, gardening and babysitting the grandkids.
But times are changing and it turns out the seniors in our society lead a secret life and most of them are busier now in their twilight years than ever before.
This is their second chance at life and they are embracing it.
As the old adage goes 'you are only as old as you feel' and this is particularly important when it comes to getting the most out of life in retirement.
I hope whatever age you are you take something away from these stories.
Take Mary Dash for example, (you can read her story on page 4) a powerlifting inspiration.
I go to the same gym as Mary, before this magazine I had never spoken to her, I was always in a state of awe.
When she competes I'm hooked on Competitive Edge's Instagram to watch her progress, completely inspired by her attitude, her strength and dedication.
So when it came time for me to source inspirational stories for Age Up, I knew we needed her to take part.
Kathryn did an amazing job capturing her story and I hope you find her as inspirational as I do.
Peter, who is featured on page 5 wanted to stay active in his community, a love of mountain biking had followed him throughout the years and he was always seeking the next big adventure on a bike.
These days he doesn't race as much, but volunteering with Launceston Mountain Bike Club means he can be involved without being in the saddle.
Thanks to Rob Shaw for his inside tips from the biking world, without him we couldn't have brought you Peter's story.
Last but not least, Oma Rogers! You can find her story on page 6.
Thanks to my colleague Lyndell for using her animal rescue contacts to get me in touch with Oma.
What a wonderful story, after years of working 9-5 indoors, Oma wanted the chance to reconnect with nature.
Oma's story proves that your later years can be spent in ways that are a touch more wild.
Driven by her desire to care for creatures who cannot care for themselves, Oma is the proud co-owner of a dedicated wildlife rehabilitation site and sanctuary she manages with husband Stephen Walsh.
So that is that for our first edition! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
I've had the opportunity to learn about some really interesting people, which is always a bonus in my line of work and I've found a few recipes I'll be trying out too!
Please feel free to get in touch if you or someone you know fits the bill to be featured next time.
