The BMX Championships is being held at the Launceston BMX Club in March next year. About 3750 people are expected to attend, with 3375 expected to be from interstate, the council said.
"The BMX Australia National Championships is the premier event on the Australian BMX calendar, bringing together male and female riders from five years of age to over 50 years of age," the council said.
With funding for a number of special events already pre-committed, agreeing to the funding could result in a potential $12,500 shortfall.
"The proposed budget for 2019/2020 Special Event Sponsorship is $70,000. Should the recommendation for $30,000 be approved and the funding pre-committed, there will be potentially a $12,500 shortfall in the proposed 2019/2020 budget for special events sponsorship," the council said.

The council has pre-committed funds to the 2019 Australian Veteran Gold Championships, the World Fly Fishing Championships, and the National Karate Championships.
