Year 6 pupil Camden Munro was one of the Hagley pupils who tried their hand at alpaca parading, stockmanship and shearing.
The 12-year-old said he got to choose Mo Mo, who won Supreme Champion at Royal Hobart Show this year, and he was calm but a bit cheeky sometimes.
"I wanted to try it out to see how it was," he said.
"I was walking around with him in the pen and I thought that he might be good for me."

Kawaii Alpacas' Billinda Schipp, who provided the alpacas, said the goal would be to get a Hagley Farm team at the Royal Hobart Show.
"We're the only state in Australia that doesn't have a paraders competition for the kids yet," she said.
"What we're really focusing on this year is getting kids interested and getting the paraders competition up and running so that we can have a Tasmanian team at the national show next year.
"There hasn't been an alpaca (section) at Westbury before, so we'd also like to see Westbury Show have an alpaca section eventually."
