Twenty-six Tasmania Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife and Sustainable Timbers personnel are on the fire ground assisting with the Glen Innes fire.

Despite the crew's best efforts, it is understood the lady later died in hospital.

TFS chief officer Chris Arnol said a disaster was unfolding in the state at the moment.

"Our firefighters are in the thick of it," he said.

"They're really doing it tough up there and they're looking for relief."

A further 27 TFS firefighters, and 16 Parks and Wildlife firefighters are scheduled to fly to NSW on Sunday.

The Tasmanian teams will use NSW resources to allow the firefighters to rest.

Mr Arnol said Tasmania's fire situation at the moment was not dangerous, which allowed the firefighters to assist.

"We're even looking at an ongoing capacity to make sure we can support them if they need it," he said.

"They've had a long campaign already, so they're looking for relief for the firefighters. We will get in their vehicles. They're looking straight for people with the skills to get in and do what they need to do with front-line firefighting."

Another death, and at least 130 homes have been destroyed.

Mr Arnol said it was great to be able to repay the favour to NSW who sent 700 firefighters to Tasmania to assist with the summer bushfires.
