Tasmanian Salmonid Growers Association chair Chris Dockray said the move was a "mutual parting of ways" and the organisation "wished him well".
"He was not right for us at the moment but a very capable fellow," Mr Dockray said.
"... Sometimes things just don't fit and sometimes the way he saw things and the way members saw things don't necessarily coincide."

Mr Gregson joined the TSGA in January after stints at Imperial Tobacco and the NSW Irrigators Council.
He also served as the Tasmanian Liberal Party's state director and chief of staff in the early 2000s.
Mr Dockray said Mr Gregson had "a lot of experience" and "achieved a lot of good things" before he left the TSGA this month.
"He introduced some good codes of conduct and led some good policy debates and discussions. So an extremely capable fellow," Mr Dockray said.
Mr Dockray said the TSGA had now "moved on and started a process of looking for a replacement" chief executive.
