Tasmania had 1600 sales of new vehicles in October, according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries' latest VFACTS report.
That was 327 fewer than in September and 276 fewer than in October 2018.
Year to date sales of 16,391 were 395 weaker than in the corresponding period a year earlier.
Sales were weaker in October than in October 2018 in every state and territory, as were year to date sales.
Tasmanian passenger vehicle sales, already in long-term decline, were hit particularly hard in October.
Just 396 new passenger vehicles were sold during the month, down by more than a quarter (136) compared to their 532 sales in October 2018.
Market-topping SUVs also weakened, with 780 sales compared to 847 in October last year.
Light commercials dropped from 426 sales to 365.
Even trucks felt the pinch, with 59 heavy commercial sales compared to 71.
Toyota was the standout marque in October, with a market leading 302 sales, but even that was weaker than October 2018 (by 72).
Hyundai (188) and Mitsubishi (141) were the only other marques with three-figure sales.
Hyundai bucked the downward trend, with its sales 57 stronger than a year earlier.
Holden (99) and Subaru (90) were next strongest.
Total sales to private buyers, businesses, government and vehicle rental companies were all weaker than in October 2018.
