Baker replaces outgoing Cricket Tasmania boss Nick Cummins after 13 years at the Federal Group, with his last role at the Tasmanian family-owned company as general manager of casino, resorts and entertainment.
The 48-year-old will commence the position at the end of November to coincide with Cummins's exit back home to Cricket Victoria.
The father of two's time in sports administration has extended to being chairman of AFL Tasmania for nearly nine years until 2014.
"It was a tough decision to leave Federal Group after a very rewarding 13 years, but this was an opportunity to good to pass up for a Tassie lad passionate about sport and cricket, in particular," Baker said.
"I feel privileged and excited that in the role of CEO of Cricket Tasmania, I am able to bring together my skills with my passion.
