The dedicated, and life-long politician, businessman and gentleman, died on October 28, aged 94.

His daughter Virginia said he will be fondly remembered as a man who loved to make a speech.

"There won't be another Ray," she said. "He was always so proud of all of us and anything we achieved. He was so encouraging."

The well-respected politician will be remembered as someone who was always ready to listen and to try and help.

"We were so proud of him when he got into parliament in the legislative council in Hobart, and then equally as proud when he was an alderman in the Launceston City Council," Ms Shipp said.

His family will miss him taking any opportunity to give an impromptu speech.

"At any occasion, he would always grab it and say a few words, even in the hospital on a few occasions he'd make a speech or Christmas like he was in parliament again," Ms Shipp said.

He will be missed within the community, his daughter said.

"We're all going to miss him terribly. It's the end of an era. There won't be another Ray," she said.

Mr Shipp leaves behind his wife Gail, another daughter Adrienne and son Andrew, along with his five grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

"The community support during the last few days has been "really comforting", Ms Shipp said.

"People have been calling all three of us and Gail as well. He was very much respected and admired in the community," she said.

"We're all travelling not too badly, everyone is pulling together and helping."

City of Launceston council mayor Albert van Zetten said Mr Shipp was hard-working, diligent and always fought for the interests of ratepayers and the wider community.

"He was always extremely supportive of council staff and the other elected representatives around the table," Cr van Zetten said.

Mr Shipp served on the council up until the age of 85 and was MLC for Launceston from 1968 to 1982.

"Such was his love of the city and his dedication to the job, which included a term as deputy mayor to the late John Lees," Cr van Zetten said.

Mr Shipp's funeral will be held on Friday at the Holy Trinity Church at 11am.
