Greg Hunt joined Bass Liberal MHR Bridget Archer in Launceston for a discussion with medical professionals about issues in the state's health sector.

It comes after LGH staff tried to initiate a code yellow two weekends ago, citing an internal emergency. Unions said the efforts of staff were "shut down" by senior management.

Mr Hunt did not elaborate on why he wasn't visiting the hospital, but said he was looking forward to going there "on subsequent visits".

He noted that the federal government was delivering an additional $750 million over five years to Tasmania's hospitals through the new national hospitals agreement, as well as an extra $730 million as a one-off payment with the transfer of the Mersey Community Hospital from federal hands to Tasmanian hands.

But Tasmanian Labor senator Helen Polley said Mr Hunt didn't want to visit the LGH because "we're in a health crisis" and "he only wants to be a good news minister".

Senator Polley also called on Mr Hunt to address the dearth of bulk-billing GP services in Launceston.

Ms Archer told media on Monday that she'd had a number of conversations with medical professionals regarding access to GPs and other issues since she was elected to the Federal Parliament in May.

"I'll continue those conversations but I made an undertaking to those people that I've spoken to that I would bring the minister for him to hear directly from them and I think it was a very productive meeting [today]," she said.
