The North's home of triathlon in recent years, spectator-friendly York Cove will host an open-water swim with wetsuits "strongly encouraged" by LTC president Matt Wheatley.
"They're not mandatory but they are encouraged if only because it's the end of October, it's going to be fresh," he said.
"We're looking forward to a great day, fantastic weather and great location."

The first race of the season appears more or less up for grabs, with a majority of the Triathlon Tasmania's junior development squad on the entry list and expected to challenge for podiums.
Jake Birtwhistle is likely to appear at an LTC meet later in the season but in the meantime, the Australian number one has signed participation certificates for every competitor in the Tristars event.
The new season will also see LTC trial throwing plastic cups to the kerb with a new waste reduction strategy.
"We'd normally go through about 3000 cups throughout the course of the year so we're reducing that to zero," Wheatley said.
"We're asking people to bring another drink bottle and we'll make it available on the run leg if that's what they want - it's just some way we can do our bit and it's got some really positive feedback from our members."
Online registration through the LTC Facebook page is encouraged, with on-the-day registration also available from 8.30am.
Races start at 9.30am.
