The diploma of nursing is taught at the Launceston city campus and will remain there until the second half of 2020, while the rest of TasTAFE's Launceston students transition to a redeveloped Alanvale campus.
TasTAFE chief executive Jenny Dodd said brand new state-of-the-art nursing facilities would be included as part of the $4 million redevelopment of the Alanvale campus.
The redevelopment of Alanvale will include modern prac rooms and other facilities to replace the existing facilities at the Launceston city campus.
"The current nursing facilities at Launceston city campus are at capacity and can't accommodate growth," Ms Dodd said.
"TasTAFE needed to refresh the facilities and also needed to ensure it can meet the huge growth expected in the health and aged care industry for Tasmania."
Ms Dodd said the investment at Alanvale would allow students to train on up-to-date equipment in refurbished premises and "meet the high demand for places in this critical industry."
However, she confirmed TasTAFE would proceed with plans to co-locate at the University of Tasmania's $260 million Inveresk campus. Stage one of the Inveresk campus was approved by the City of Launceston at its council meeting last week.
"The co-location with the university will be an additional program to that offered at Alanvale. There is sufficient demand for both as health is Tasmania's fastest-growing industry," Ms Dodd said.
A further $1 million has been allocated by the state government to redevelop the Clarence TasTAFE campus' nursing facilities and the Devonport campus' facilities were developed in 2017.
Ms Dodd said the investment in the North and the south would bring infrastructure to the level of the Devonport, which are state-of-the-art, modern facilities.
It's understood the co-location of TasTAFE and UTAS at Inveresk would occur in 2024.
