Five of his family members, and two friends slid into a pool filled with more than a tonne of ice.
The seven helped make up a group of 50 people who had raised a minimum of $500 for research into the disease.
Mr Roles was diagnosed earlier this year, but had symptoms for 12 months prior to that.
"That support is paramount. It certainly helps you tackle this disease knowing that support is there," Mr Roles said.
He said a cure was just around the corner.
Shaun Donohue took to the pool of ice in a Collingwood Football Club guernsey for Mr Roles and said it was an honour.
"Terry is our inspiration and we're devastated that he was struck by this terrible disease earlier in the year, but we've all just tired to stay positive," he said.
The organisation behind Saturday's event was able to break its previous fundraising record, Tassie Freezing MND committee member Andrew Philpott said.
"This is our fourth big freeze. We started in 2016 and after today we will have raised over $300,000 through Big Freezes and balls," he said.
"Last year we raised $45,000 just for the slide. $11,500 of that was donated by LiveEat Kings Meadows which we didn't have this year. We've already got more than $50,000 today and that's just been through the people going down the slide."
A group involved with the Launceston Tornadoes Basketball Club raised more than $9000 for the event. Along with Carol Spencer raising about $6000 through "pestering" her family and friends to send her husband Andrew down the slide.
The age of the sliders varied, starting about 11 right through to 70, Mr Philpott said.
"I saw the smallest kid I've ever seen go down. I don't know his exact age but he was absolutely tiny."
Mr Philpott said it was fantastic to have such great community support, but said the event would continue running until a cure was found.
"It's not something I will just do for a year or two. It's something I will keep doing while I'm able to," he said.
The group will host a Fight the Beast cocktail party on Saturday night.
A final fundraising tally is expected by the end of the week.
