Organiser Vanessa Finlay said it was the first time Diversity Launceston had joined in on the Garage Sale Trail and it had come together "really well".
"(We wanted to) bring together the crew and try to make a queer friendly event in the community but also obviously it was largely about the war on waste and reducing landfill," she said.
The group had a tea, coffee and drink stall as well to encourage people to stay for a chat and Ms Finlay said it had worked, with many staying for a yarn.
At the University Fellowship of Christians Launceston mega stall, Launceston City mayor Albert Van Zetten agreed the day was about reducing landfill but also served another purpose.
"People get to talk to each other which is always good and (it provides) a sense of community," he said.
"I think as much as we can encourage the community to work together it's a good thing...we all need to have community around us to support us.
"(The council) is strong on community and strong on not putting everything in landfill, so it achieves a couple of good purposes."
