Crews were called to the Lawson Street property about 3am to find it fully engulfed, Launceston station officer Ben Wilson said.
"They've had reports from neighbors on the scene that there might be someone into the house," he said.
"Upon entering the house they thought they heard noises of someone yelling, and they found an occupant in one of the rear bedrooms.
"From there they've been able to get that person out of the window of the bedroom ... that person is very lucky to be alive given the intensity of the fire and the damage done to the house."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Neighbours called triple zero and had attempted to help rescue the woman by breaking windows, but they had no success.
Not only did crews have to battle falling roof tiles and a collapsing house, they also had asbestos concerns.
Mr Wilson said it's a "rare event" to have to rescue occupants.
"But, that's our job and what we're trained for," he said.
"I guess the training has kicked in and they've fallen into a process and worked really hard to help the occupant out. That's just what we do and it was a great outcome."
Crews understand the fire might have started in the lounge room.
"It's believed that the occupant was unaware of the fire initially, which probably slowed her awareness of what was going on around her down," Mr Wilson said.
The woman, aged in her 50s, was taken to the Launceston General Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
Another person was also treated for smoke inhalation.
About $250,000 damage has occurred at the privately-owned property.
The cause is still be investigated, but fire investigators expected to have an answer by Friday evening.
Tasmania Police is also investigating.
Mr Wilson said it was important to ensure your house has working smoke alarms in all bedrooms.
Anyone with information in relation to the fire is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
