Five rubbers were decided by a tiebreak in which ACT came away victorious in four, leaving the Tasmanians on the back foot.
A 4-2 4-5 10-8 doubles win to George Anderson and Lachlan Browne put the Apple Isle in a good position early but they would have to wait until the mixed doubles win of Browne and Alicia Dale in their 4-2 4-0 triumph for their second.

This came after Dale fell agonisingly short of victory in her singles, falling to Aliyah Dwyer 6-2 3-6 10-8.
Young Launceston gun Oliver Carswell nearly picked up his first win at under-12 representative level, as he, like Dale, fell two points short of victory partnering Hobart's Sam Hewitt in a 3-5 5-3 10-8 defeat.
Deloraine's Jack Heathcote continued to show his improvement on the singles court, pushing opponent Dylan Beeharry to a 6-3 7-5 loss to accompany his 6-3 6-2 defeat on Wednesday.
Isabelle Gower also edged closer to her first win of the tournament, partnering Hobart's Lucas Akl to a dominant first-set performance before Oscar Andrews and Mackenzie Dugdale came back and won 1-4 4-2 10-2.
After five rounds of competition, Tasmania sit in seventh place, ahead of Northern Territory who they face on Saturday after taking on third-placed Queensland.
