The charges follow a motor vehicle crash at Otago Bay on Sunday, July 21.
The 36-year-old male constable will be charged with negligent driving, and the alternative charge of driving without due care and attention.
He will also be charged with failing to give way when making a U-turn and failing to signal when turning right.
The officer remains on operational duty, a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
"As the matter is now before the court it is inappropriate to make any further comment," the spokesperson said.
The officer has been summoned to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on November 22.
