Grade 11 student Lachlan Gleeson travelled to Gibraltar last month, representing the Australian under-18 darts team while footballer Ryan Drake donned Tasmanian colours in August, sparking a European opportunity.
Taking up the sport after his dad, Gleeson received a phone call that would lead to a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
"I just got picked [for the side] and I got a phone call one night asking if I wanted to go," he said.

"We went really, really well. We came 16th first day which was our team, 32nd on second day and 16th again on the last day which was all individual."
Bringing his game to the next level after a winning streak raised his confidence, Gleeson described his Spanish experience as "really different and hot."
While Gleeson was doing his thing in Gibraltar, Drake's performance at the School Sport Australia under-15 football carnival in Launceston got his name on selectors' lips.
Selected to travel to Ireland for Australia's gaelic football side, Drake declined the offer to focus on his school work around exam period but was still pleased to be in contention.
"I got called to the office one day here at school and they had a letter for me to open," he said.
"And it was a letter to invite me to Ireland to play gaelic footy."
Deloraine's acting principal David Lietzau couldn't be prouder of the pair.
"For me a full education isn't just the academic stuff, it includes sports and the arts and to see our kids excel in those areas is just fantastic," he said.
"I haven't done it yet but I'd like to see whether people like Lachlan and his playing of darts, has had an improvement on his maths and things like that."
