Tasmania Police deployed tyre spikes to stop a vehicle south of Railton on Railton Road near Native Rock Road.
Devonport Police Acting Detective Inspector Anthea Maingay said that deployment followed a pursuit through the township of Railton.
However, she said the pursuit was not a high speed chase.
"There was an element of speed involved but I would not class it as high speed."
The pursuit followed "an extensive investigation" by the Devonport CIB and ended in the arrest of a 29-year-old man.
The Railton man has been charged with firearms, family violence offences, aggravated burglaries, burglaries, multiple motor vehicle stealing offences, dangerous driving, aggravated evasion of police, and destruction of property following the investigation and arrest.
Acting Detective Inspector Maingay said the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be laid as a result of the investigation.
"The man was allegedly in possession of a firearm and ammunition at the time of his arrest," she said.
"Police, including the Special Operations Group, were involved in the arrest to ensure public safety.
"Following the arrest, police conducted a number of searches in North-West Tasmania recovering stolen vehicles, stolen property and a quantity of ammunition."
She also said the man charged was previously known to police and that the charges laid are all in relation to incidents occurring in the Sheffield, Railton and Beulah townships over a period of a couple of weeks recently.
Members of the public reported seeing the armoured Special Operations vehicles in and around Railton on Saturday morning, though the Acting Detective Inspector reiterated there was no threat to the public at any time.
She said the use of that resource was "in relation to information which had been received which indicated that this was a matter that required additional resources that were beyond the scope of detectives and general duties offices.
"It was to ensure the arrest was affected as promptly as it could be done and to assist with the safe apprehension of the male person and the safety of the community.
"There was no risk to the public at all."
Anyone with information should call police on 131 444.
