The pair are representing Australia at the INAS Global Games in Brisbane for athletes with an intellectual disability.
Australia played three practice matches this week during which Nilon, who is already a two-time national representative, presented Sheppard with his Australian cap.
The Games officially began on Sunday with Australia due to play five Twenty20 matches against England.
Held every four years, the Global Games are a world-class sporting event comprising 10 different sports and are an important part of the build-up to next year's Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
