The students, who are enrolled in the school's Sustainability Communities class have been working to improve natural open space and required timber for landscaping.
Teacher Kim Cruwys said the class had a strong focus on reducing waste, and were using other materials such as cardboard and shredded paper. Meander mayor Wayne Johnston said the council carefully salvage any material that can be re-used when infrastructure needed replacing.
The timber will form part of a green belt planted with four different native shrub varieties, donated by Sustainable Timbers Tasmania.
Other gardens are planned at adjoining sites that will have a different ecological focuses and will include information about the tree's type and its cultural significance.
