It may be small in number, but the Tasmanian team heading to next week's Oceania Track Cycling Championships is big on ambition.

Launceston's Amy Wright and Lauren Perry will team up with Burnie duo Dalton Stretton and Lachlan Spurr under the guidance of Tasmanian Institute of Sport coach Matthew Gilmore in Invercargill, New Zealand.
"For Dalton, Lachlan and Amy it's really all about international exposure," Gilmore said. "Dalton and Lachlan have moved up from under-17 to under-19s and this will be their first competition at the older age.
"For Lauren it's an opportunity to continue on from track nationals and put her best foot forward towards getting into the academy under-pinning the national program.
"For an athlete that has been in the system for a while now it will ultimately come down to her performance. She's had some setbacks along the way that have stalled her progression but at this year's track nationals she was back to a level we know she is capable of.
"Her goals are still to try to compete at an Olympic Games so Paris (2024) would be the target for her."
Gilmore said Perry rode a personal best to finish fourth in the individual pursuit at nationals where she was also fourth in the scratch race.
The Tassie team was denied two other regular Launceston members when Josh Duffy was called up to the Cycling Australia track academy and Gilmore's son Zack landed a spot at the London Six-Day event.
