Kelly Wilson's theatre company, Adaptivity, will perform Hamlet at the Earl Arts Centre.
It is the company's second show, with the first being Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, which had a modern twist involving social media.
Many characters have been cut entirely from the script or combined with the characters that remain, meaning just seven cast will be in the show.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Ophelia's role has been greatly expanded and placed firmly in the 21st century through the incorporation of lines from Horatio, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern and even Hamlet, Wilson said.
The show examines society's growing obsession with revenge, has parallels with murder rates and the rise of terrorism.
"I thought we're kind of living in very similar times [to Shakespeare], and I just thought there was a connection to whats happening in the 21st century now to what was happening over 400 years ago," Wilson said.
The show opens on Wednesday, October 9 and runs until Saturday, October 12. Five shows only. Tickets through Theatre North.
Tickets cost $32 for adults, concession are $25 and children 7-17 are $10.
