The annual Johns Family Charity Golf Day at Fingal has run since 2014.
Event coordinator, and Malahide Golf Club captain and greenskeeper, Andrew Johns lost his father, Murray, to suicide in 2006.
"We also lost a good friend of ours that played golf here as well a bit later on," he said.
"It took us a little while to want to do anything.
"In late 2013, mum and I talked about it and said we ought to put a day on, raise some funds from it."
The first event was held in support of Lifeline, and the past four raised funds for Suicide Prevention Australia.
Mr Johns' mum, Annette, said alongside raising funds the event was also aimed at raising awareness of the issue.
"It's a rippling effect throughout the whole family, and it changes you forever," she said.
Mr Johns said even if they could help save one person, it would be worth it.
"We don't want anyone else to go through what we've been through," he said.
"You've got to try and move on, and this is our way of trying to move on from it."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Since the event's inception, more than $30,000 has been raised.
"We've had people from all over the state come out and play. We had 70 last year," he said. "We're hoping it might be a big day this year too."
Alongside being the setting for the event, the Malahide Golf Club holds a special place in the heart of the Johns family.
Mr Johns began playing at the course when he was 12 and is now a life member.
"There's a lot of history here. Mum's father and my dad's father were both greenskeepers here as well, so it's a bit of a family tradition," he said.
The club also acts as a meeting place for the Fingal community.
"It's turned into a bit of a community club now. We have a chicken run Fridays where they play nine holes, then we put a bit of food and everything on for the town people," he said.
"I think we've probably got 40 or 50 social members. There's no hotel, so they come over here. It works out nicely, because had to diversify a bit.
"We sort of promote ourselves as a golf and community club."
Johns Family Charity Golf Day will take place on November 30 from 10am at the Malahide Golf Club.
The competition is $20 per entry, including a barbecue lunch and afternoon tea.
