Playing up to five matches a weekend on top of regular statewide training sessions as part of the Tasmanian under-12 side, Damon's dedication saw him travel to Bendigo for the national championships in August as the only player from the Northern region.
Alongside a senior division three premiership this season, the Exeter Primary School student has been nominated for The Examiner's Junior Sports Awards' Male Rising Star Award for his commitment and prowess in the sport.

Not fully content with succeeding on-field where at Tamar Churinga's annual awards night he took home: the division three rising star award, under-14 outstanding contribution award and under-19 'absolute unit' award, Damon has begun taking his first steps into umpiring.
Co-officiating rostered matches of division three competition, Damon also completed the online community course and the Northern hockey umpiring workshop to extend his abilities.
But Damon's talents aren't just confined to the white lines of the hockey field.
Stepping onto Windsor Park for his fourth year of little athletics at the Launceston centre, he represents the West Tamar branch, favouring long-distance running, high jump and javelin.
Damon strode over the finish line first in Exeter Primary's cross-country event this year before competing in both the inter-school championships and the all-schools race at Symmons Plains, backing up his efforts in the athletics carnival with a first-placed finish in 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m events.
With the little spare time offered following his hockey commitments, he also coaches the school's grade three and four soccer team, participates in Beauty Point's midweek sailing and has made a foray into archery, impressing those at Paringa in Trevallyn.
