Fire crews from Kelso, Beaconsfield and Gravelly Beach were called to the fire about 8.15am after neighbours noticed smoke coming from the premises.
The occupants - an elderly couple - have been transported by ambulance to Launceston General Hospital as a precaution and their injuries were not believed to be serious, Constable Alex Long said.
He said neighbours noticed the smoke and called Triple Zero, and they also helped the elderly couple to leave the house.
The neighbours managed to remove the couple before they could suffer smoke inhalation.
The roof of the house appears to have collapsed and the fire is continuing to generate smoke in the area.
Rowella Road is closed from the Batman Highway to just after the intersection with Hudson Street.
