The Seven Lies follows Wynyard lawyer Emma Stroheim and American journalist CJ as they investigate suspicious similarities between national security events from the assassination of JFK to the September 11 attacks.

The couple are plunged into this dramatic quest when they stumbled upon a trail of clues left by CJ's dead father, who spent three decades working for the US National Security Agency.

"It's a bit like The Da Vinci Code where there's a whole lot of codes and puzzles to unlock in various locations," Springfield said.

The Stroheims find themselves on an international pursuit to uncover the truth filled with deception, corruption, cover-ups and the mysterious deaths of whistle-blowers.

But there's plenty of action that happens in Tasmania, including a waterborne shoot out at Boat Harbour Beach.

"I was actually in Boat Harbour when I was writing that so it's close to the bone," Springfield said.

"... I'm absolutely thrilled that I can put the locations that I love and share it with an international audience."

Springfield shares not only the Tasmanian locations he loves in The Seven Lies but his own experiences.

The Burnie-raised writer said his computer had been hacked while researching for the book, with some websites blocked and computer files copied.

"Even though I've had those issues, it's also put me on a path to find the truth and find the lies," he said.

"What has happened to me is documented through the characters."

These concerns about surveillance inspired Springfield to use his research to write a novel rather than non-fiction.

It's also the reason why he is reluctant to have his photograph taken.

But Springfield hopes The Seven Lies will shed light on the mechanisms of the American security, intelligence and political systems established after the assassination of JFJK.

He also hopes Emma's perspective will provide insight into how those systems work in Australia.

"At the core of it all is this factual information and I just thought it (a novel) was the best way for me to share it with the biggest audience," Springfield said.
