Aptly titled A Prime Minister for our times, the editorial provided an insightful designation of the current appalling socio-political landscape of 'our times'.

Without doubt, Morrison is a shrewd showman as his chequered education, employment and political history highlight. When aware of his misdemeanours, his behaviour in Launceston comes as no surprise.

Morrison, accompanied by family and entourage, played to the crowd as he frolicked through footy, food and festivity. The PM appeared disconnected from issues like our struggling health system and so many other critical dilemmas of 'our times'. Rather than explore issues of concern with those people he encountered, or visit with overstretched hospital staff, Morrison delighted in partaking in selfies and mateship handshakes. Is this really what we want of 'our times'?

YOU can bet your bottom dollar that if the proposed takeover of infant formula company Bellamy's Australia (by a Chinese group) goes ahead, a major stumbling block for the company will disappear overnight.

For example, Bellamy's efforts to develop a direct export market into China have been continually hampered by Chinese authorities which have banned its products since 2017 and still hasn't approved the company's application to restart direct sales into China. Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board should see straight through this for what it really is, an underhanded takeover bid, and act accordingly, if they can't see that, the whole board themselves, should've gone to Specsavers.

Our council has decided not to celebrate January 26 as the official day of Australia Day, saying by doing so it might better unite the community.

All recent polls have shown that 75 per cent of Australians support January 26 as Australia Day, and only 10 per cent oppose.

So is the council is going against the wishes of the vast majority of the people?

It would not matter what day was proposed as a replacement day, as some have suggested, it would still have the same detractors saying that it is celebrating the "invasion" of Australia. Why doesn't our council concentrate on fixing our city's problems, and trying to regenerate our business centre? Walkthrough the Quadrant Mall, there are six empty shops. The empty Birchalls shop which has been an an eyesore for years.

WHAT an uplifting story on Friday's front page (The Examiner, September 20). Young people often get a bad wrap, Kaidan Gibson proved to be a wonderful example of youth. Congratulations Kaidan on your bravery and level-headedness, you are a credit to your family and our community.
