Then in his second season at North Launceston, Scotch Oakburn's 2018 SATIS premiership captain was squeezed out to make way for returning gun and former coach Tom Couch.
This year, the 19-year-old has missed just one game playing in defence and was rewarded with selection on a half-back flank in the Northern Bombers' grand final 22.

"It's exciting," he said.
"I feel like I've had a better year than last year, I've been able to string some consistency together.
"I've felt at home, I've felt comfortable down back and I'm really excited to get out there and play in a granny."
Playing for East Launceston from under-nines to under-15s, Bennett arrived at UTAS Stadium in 2017 and debuted the same year.
The Launceston cricketer was one of North's best in last year's development league grand final loss, and said he was looking forward to testing himself at the next highest level.
"It means a lot," Bennett said.
"Obviously there have been a lot of players before me that have tasted success in the senior side.
"There's quite a few boys this year that I've spoken to about it - they all like it, they all cherished the moment so it's special."
